School Links
Links between schools in England and schools in
Mityana played an important part in the charities
inception, particularly the links between St. Sebastians
School, and Mityana Junior School and Butega Nursery School.
Jean Ajin
from St.Sebastians Primary School writes:-
Adults and children are becoming more aware of the many ways
in which our lives are linked with others all over the world. Exploring,
discussing and understanding these historical, geographical, economic, political
and social links is a vital part of every child's education and preparation for being
a citizen of the world in the 2lst century. In this technological age of rapid communication,
children are ready to investigate, discuss and understand the complexities of the world in which
we all live. The National Curriculum enables learning with a global perspective. It includes
requirements to teach about a range of cultural, development and environmental issues.
As part of our school 'Ethos' programme - ' Caring for Others', we have developed a link between
our school and church community and a school and church community in Mityana, Uganda. We encourage
the children to examine values, to combat prejudice and develop open-mindedness. We are building
on the children's knowledge and interest in the world, for broadening horizons and raising
awareness of increasing global interdependence. The link has enabled a teacher exchange with both
teachers working alongside each other in their classrooms enabling them both to gain first hand
information. This enables them to plan a stimulating and wide ranging
set of experiences for their pupils.
