The Mityana Charity annually supports vulnerable youth in acquiring employable skills through vocational training programmes in partnership with various institutions in Uganda. However, due to the fact that many of the beneficiaries come from very impoverished households, they still face a lot of challenges in securing employment or establishing their own businesses due to limited start-up capital and exposure.
To address this, the Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) was established at PaCT offices in Mityana, serving three primary purposes:
- Post-training skill enhancement: The centre provides a platform for graduates to continue practicing and refining their skills while seeking employment, increasing their employability and preparedness.
- Holiday programmes for youth: During school breaks, the BIC engages supported children in life-empowering skills like shoe-making and book-making, diverting them from antisocial activities that might hinder their educational success.
- Apprenticeship opportunities: The centre offers local out-of-school youth the chance to acquire skills in tailoring, catering, baking, and shoe-making, enabling them to earn a living.
The BIC also provides a revenue stream for PaCT, supplementing overhead costs and supporting the organisation’s sustainability.
This initiative demonstrates the Mityana Charity, through her implementing partner PaCT, is committed to empowering vulnerable youth and promoting sustainable livelihoods in the community.
Any additional financial support for the BIC will enable it to continue to fulfil its purpose.
