An Unexpected turn of events
The Mityana Charity was founded in 1994 when a vicar from St. Sebastian’s Church in Wokingham, England, visited Mityana with the charity Send a Cow. Upon his return, he shared slides of his visit with the staff and children at St. Sebastian’s Primary School. This sparked an initiative to support the impoverished people of Uganda, and his dream grew beyond anything he had imagined.
Inspired by the vicar’s experiences, Deputy Head of St. Sebastian’s School Jean Ajin, staff and students developed a keen interest in Mityana. Jean established a connection with a local school in Mityana and began sponsoring a few children. By 1997, the Mityana Charity was formed to unite these various activities and coordinate the growing number of projects.

Our mission
The Mityana Charity is dedicated to improving the lives of families and individuals in Mityana and the surrounding districts by advancing education, health and livelihood opportunities. We aim to create a brighter and more sustainable future for the communities in the vicinity of Mityana through several key initiatives.
- Sponsoring children’s education.
- Improving access to clean water and sanitation.
- Developing maternal healthcare infrastructure.
- Enhancing menstrual hygiene management.
- Empowering women to enhance their livelihoods.
The Mityana Charity also supports the operation and development of PaCT, thereby maximising its capacity to successfully implement the charity’s five key initiative whilst having a sustainable future.

Our Approach to Local Service Delivery in Uganda
The trustees of Mityana Charity are primarily based in the UK so the implementation of projects is undertaken by a partner organisation called Partners for Community Transformation (PaCT) which is based in Mityana.
PaCT is a registered indigenous non-profit organisation in Uganda, with a dedicated focus on seven districts: Mityana, Mubende, Kiboga, Gomba, Kyankwanzi, Kassanda, and Kakumiro. It has an independent Board of Directors composed of Ugandan nationals. PaCT’s core mission is to enhance the lives of Ugandans by facilitating improved access to quality education, economic empowerment, and healthcare services. To gain insight into PaCT’s activities and achievements, please visit their official website at www.pactug.org.
The Mityana Charity provides funds for projects implemented by PaCT. The use of the funds is monitored on a monthly basis. Also trustees of the charity and others visit Mityana at their own expense, typically once a year, to liaise with PaCT and monitor progress with projects.”
